Cricket in the Desert?

The United Arab Emirates will provide the venues for Pakistan’s matches against South Africa later this year.

Pakistan have not hosted international cricket since terrorists attacked Sri Lanka’s team bus in Lahore in March 2009, killing six policemen and a driver and wounding six members of the touring party.

South Africa are scheduled to play two Tests, five one-day internationals and one Twenty20 international in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from October 27-November 24.

“This series will provide great entertainment for cricket fans as PCB and Cricket South Africa have worked hard to bring this event about and we are very excited to be returning to the world class facilities in the UAE,” Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt said.

Cricket South Africa chief Gerald Majola added: “The Proteas always enjoy playing Pakistan… we are especially delighted that the fans will get to see top flight cricket between these two teams.”

Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi will host the T20 international on October 27, two one-day internationals on October 29 and October 31, and the second Test from November 20-24.

Dubai’s Sports City ground will organise three one-day internationals on November 2, November 5 and November 8, and the first Test from November 12-16.
